British Renland Expedition

In July and August an intrpid team of British climbers attempted to scale unclimbed mountains in the Renland area of Greenland.  Renland is a large area of glaciers and mountains in Eastern Greenland which is still largely unexplored.  Other expeditions to the area had found an extensive mountain range of unclimbed mountains and huge granite walls.  As very few expeditions have ventured into Renland almost all the peaks have yet to be climbed.  This, coupled with the fact that Renland receives very stable weather, makes it an ideal choice for adventure and exploration. The team stated before leaving "We have a simple plan.  Go to Renland and climb new peaks, new rock, ice and mixed routes on big walls of perfect granite. We believe there is a high probability of a successful outcome due to the quality of the rock, the amount of unclimbed objectives, the well planned logistics, the generous timeframe that we have allowed for the expedition and the strong team assembled."

The expedition was a success and achievements included the first ever ascent of Mount Hannes.  You can read more about the expedition here.  But you will need a good head for heights!

The team were kept fuelled by Dorset Flapjacks and David Barlow said that fortunately they had a variety of flavours and they had their own favourites so no fights broke out over who had what. Congratulations guys.
